Funky Monkey

Another crochet roll finished! I've found that they are actually quite fun to make, even if rather time consuming.

This one is made from fabrics called 'Funky Monkey' that I bought online last year. I bought them to make the cushion covers for the playhouse. I had sort of gone off the fabrics as they aren't very pretty. But, I thought as a fun crochet roll they would be perfect. And I am happy with how it has come out.

Due to a lack of ribbons, I have used the good old red gingham again. It goes with the yellow and brown ginghams of course anyway. I love the red with white polka dot fabric. That one came from good old Spotlight.

On the inside I used a large yellow piece with the monkeys hoola hooping and scootering. They are quite funny little guys aren't they? The lines are stitched in zig zag to add a bit of fun to the fabrics. This time I stitched right to the top of the fabric roll to keep it neater looking. I'm much happier with this alteration.

This roll was very similar to making the selvage one, as you piece the different fabrics together first. It's fun and creative, rather than just using one or two fabrics. I'm thinking patchwork might be interesting as well. Maybe squares like my WIP blanket. We'll see.

I stitched six more squares last night, so that brings my total up to 46. Not bad, but plenty to go. I was going to have a white border around each square but it just didn't please me. Maybe they are supposed to be plainer fabrics to look right. Who knows.

OK, I'm off to restore some sort of order around here! And I guess I should think about something for dinner too. Hate that time of the day! Hate cooking!!

Those monkeys on the inside look really great. I think using the zigzag stitch is a good touch too. I find stopping to cook just gets in the way sometimes; I guess I'm just not in the mood for it as we've been having lots of quiche and salads and picnic teas lately; very lazy of me I know!! Love Salx

That's such a fun fabric! You are definitely very good at the old patchwork - right up your street! Like the zig zag and the idea of stitching right up to the top!

Just saw your CUTE selvedge roll on Karen's blog, which led me to your blog. I'm a new crocheter and have been looking for a cute hook roll to make. Thanks for the inspiration.
