My Square Granny

I have got back into crochet over the weekend. I'm getting rather quick at it now, so quick that I ran out of the light pink wool. Isn't that just the most annoying thing? Even more annoying as I had just bought the other three colours that day! I also discovered, that when the wool is nearly at the end, the tension is no longer there making it difficult to manage.

While I was buying my pretty wools, I discovered some beautiful merino/angora twists on big special. Well, my favourite red was there just begging to be bought. So, in the end, I just couldn't leave without it, and bought a brown one too. Could be a cushion for the sofa one day.

I think these Granny Squares - below, are a huge improvement from my first attempt - above. It's a different style and it suits me much better. Didn't these used to be called Peggy Squares? I'm sure when I was taught crochet at primary school, we called them that.

Now, the project started out as a messenger bag, then I changed my mind and decided to make a cushion for Daughter No. 3's bed. After completing enough squares to accomplish this, I changed my mind again! I was actually having fun and didn't feel like stopping at 16 squares. My husband mentioned that I should make a blanket for her instead which really freaked me out! I mean that's huge and so many squares to go!!!

I'm not really into big projects, as in time consuming ones, so this is going to be good for me. I'm quite excited really, and think how proud I will be when I actually do it. It's good to extend one's self occasionally isn't it?

I still have all the ends to weave away, but as I have run out of pink it will be having a little rest for a day or two. That's OK, I have another few projects I'm working on, and a party to arrange for Saturday. It's going to be a busy week.

Well, I will be off now to buy some birthday pressies for a special little girl. Hope you all had a great weekend!

Those squares look beautiful, a gorgeous mix of fresh colours. Go for it and do the blanket, while you're on a roll!! See you tomorrow! x

Absolutely lovely! If you get more wool, I'm sure you can make the blanket (but who am I to talk, seeing as I can't even crochet?) Anyway, the fact that you're getting on so well is very inspiring.

Hello there, they look lovely, very pretty. I think you should do a blanket too. It doesn't have to be huge, just about the size of a cot blanket, so you can fold on the end of the bed.

Oh your grannies are fabbie!
Yes yes yes, go the whole hog and make a blanket, it'll be a family heirloom and your daughter will treasure it. I think EVERY child should have a blankety childhood memory!
Thanks for sharing
