Somewhere Over The Rainbow...

I tell you there's colour everywhere around here at the moment.  Our second to littlest girl is turning five on Thursday.  That's a really big thing in New Zealand because it means that she finally gets to go to school.  Over here you can start on your fifth birthday.  But as her biggest sister goes away to camp tomorrow and doesn't want to miss her big day, she's kindly waiting until Monday.  Sisterly love is a wonderful thing!

We are having her party on Sunday, Mother's Day.  Gosh what a treat for me!  And you guessed it, she wants a rainbow party.  Sounds wonderful to me.  I have always loved colour and I guess it's rubbed off on her.  She uses loads of colour in her drawings and colours the whole paper.

So when I saw this polar fleece at the Spotlight counter, how could I not buy it for her?  I think she's planning on wearing her new dressing gown to her party!  She really would too.

It was lovely to make, polar fleece always is.  Don't you love how it doesn't fray?  It's a lovely start to the morning to see a little rainbow come into the lounge.

I made the dressing gown about a month ago but had the most difficult time finding buttons for it.  Nothing came in enough colours or quite the right shade.  Or at the right price I might add!  Goodness buttons are expensive.  In the end I went for super cute and bought five buttons from the same range but all a little different.  This is her favourite one.

And at the end of the photo session she suddenly said "Quick, take a photo, I'm a rainbow!"

Too cute!  I'm going to miss her next week when she goes to school.  My baby starts afternoon kindy a day later.  What am I going to do??  Don't worry about ideas, I'm quite sure I'll find plenty of options!  Can't wait really.  It will be the first time in eleven years that I'll have some real time to myself.  And to that I say,  Hee ha!  Have a good week ladies.

Gorgeous dressing gown, I remember my sister knitting me a rainbow dressing gown when I was about that age, it lasted for YEARS, it seemed to 'grow' everytime it was washed ! My third child starts school in September, in England the school year runs from September til July, you have to be 4 years on 31st August to start school beginning of September, so you get children who may have just turned 4 a few days before they start, then you get others like my Hebe who will be turning 5 a few days after starting because they will have missed the intake the previous year. I am very glad that Hebe will be an older one, four seems just to young ! Will your daughter go to school all day every day ?

Rainbow girl looks so cute! And a fun party idea too. (Have you seen the rainbow cake? Every layer is a different color, but the frosting is white. So you get the rainbow surprise when you cut the cake!)
