A Proud Moment...or two

Look at my babies!! Aren't they just the cutest little things out? They are my baby peas and every single seed has popped out of the soil this week. I planted about 40 or 50! Just as well we like peas. Of course they are the best fresh from the garden.

And in here I've just planted a few hundred seeds of...

Carrots and Onions. Hoping the cats won't dig this lot up like last time. I might have to keep watch.

Remember these beetroots?

I had a bit of a dig this afternoon and discovered that only one was ready, but isn't it a fine specimen? I only have four, pathetic I know! I pulled a couple out that weren't ready by a long shot so I've replanted them. Stupid idea? Oh well if they don't recover I'll just cook them up in a couple of day. I must buy some more plants this week.

And lookie, lookie! Does this not look very fine indeed? The colour is amazing and the taste - way better than the bought variety. I just boiled it up with water, vinegar, sugar and a tad of salt. I think I'll go out and buy some ready grown ones and bottle them up. It's so much fun. I'm going to place it on the table tonight and see if my dear husband notices it's special.

I finished my little Tilda slippers last night. Two pairs for my two little girls at Christmas. Two down, goodness knows how many more handcrafted gifts to go! But it's a start isn't it?
And speaking of beetroot...

here's me sporting my new Michela dress which is beetroot red. Oh what a bummer, my head got cut off! Don't you hate it when that happens? Hee he! I am smiling though. But why am I holding my daughter's homework?
I wonder how you make dye from beetroot? Don't suppose you could use the vinegar water for it could you? Anybody know?

Morning from the UK

Love your blog - reading about your day before mine has barely started!

Good luck with the growing - we had a bumper crop here this summer which we've just finished.

Veg beds all need preparing for the winter now :(

Just look at you, damn, you are a skinny bitch. Oh, I mean that in the nicest possible way, I am just so envious, lolol. I think my skinny days are well and truly over. Sigh. My DH has a fab recipe for beetroot, must ask him about it, and email it to you. It goes fabulously well with Sunday Roasts.
Your veggies are coming along very nicely. Just you wait til we are permanently in France, I'll have a veggie garden as well then. Until then, I'll just drool over yours.

Why thank you for your 'so well put' comment Liz! If you couldn't eat dairy or gluten products you too would look like me. Really think about what is left. No puddings, only expensive biscuits, funny bread, vegetables, fruit, eggs and meat. That's it basically. I get so excited when someone serves a gluten free muffin it's not funny!

Awww, bless, big hug! My friend JJ is a skinny bitch as well, and she has similar problems. She does make amazing muffins though, have to find out from her whether they are gluten free.

Oh, and as you liked the questions so much, I have now officially passed them on to you! Go girl!

nothing better than peas in a pod straight from the garden! You could just about have a roadside stall with all your future produce! Rachael:)

I think beetroot will dye things without much help! Not sure about the mordant, though. I feel quite envious of all your vegetables springing up just as our garden is dying down. I can't believe how quickly you make things - I love those slippers, but unfortunately I don't think my big boys would like them for Christmas. I can't think of anything handmade that they would like from me, except cake!

Oh that's not fair, cutting off your head like that - I exposed mine! LOL! Mind you I did try cutting it off but the scarf just didn't look the same! ;-)

Victoria the slippers are out of the Tilda book Sew Pretty Christmas Homestyle. Although I had to alter the pattern as they were way too skinny. I have to say the instructions weren't that great either.

You could try a bit of chicken wire over the top of your seeds, until they come up a bit. Should keep the cats from digging there.

Great work on the gardening.
