Spots Galore

So, who has the smartest washing trolley in the whole of the street?  Me, that's who!  And it was all made from fabrics I had lying around.  But not only that, I cocked up, and guess what?  I was able to say, this is what I'm talking about ladies when I say a mistake is only another way to be creative.  Yes indeed it is!  I'll tell you more about this a little later on.

First I need to tell you about another successful recipe.  Yes from the same book as the butter.  If you are interested Wendyl has a web site with many of the recipes from her book.  Just pop over and have a looksie if you wish.

Anyway this recipe is one for washing clay.  It's actually more like washing glug really.  It's pure white, it smells glorious and it's good for our clothes and our skin.

Since making it I haven't been able to stop myself from washing.  Thank goodness for the gloriously hot days we are still having!  Yes I even washed 29 pillow cases one day.  And they all came out beautifully as well and some were seriously looking past their best before date.

Well I got a bit hooked on this washing thing, although I've always quite liked it except the whole folding and ironing thing.  I've never got that!!  And anyway I got thinking how awful my washing trolley was looking and how it was always slipping off being made from falling apart white nylon and how it really was driving me crazy.  So out came the spotty dotty fabric and the shears...

and here she is in all her beauty!  Ric rac and all.

Now let me get back to the story I was telling you about my mistake.  So I'm sewing right, and then I realise that I've forgotten to cut the piece for the base of the trolley bag.  No more fabric left and feeling a little annoyed with myself to say the least.  So what do I do?  I hunt around for something matchy patchy and come across a gorg tea towel from the UK.  Just what I need for the base and why not accessorise with another pocket?  That way it never looks like a mistake.  That's the key thing about fixing mistakes,  you disguise them.

So it all came together, pink binding, two super deep peg pockets, a non slippery washing bag, four new pegs and the jolliest fabrics around.  What more could a girl ask for aye?  Well actually someone to do the folding and ironing I guess, but I'll settle for the little spotty one helping I guess.  Oh her spots are much better, not that's she found them itchy, but she's still contagious for another day I'd say.

So what are you waiting for ladies?  Smarten up your trolley or basket too.  Go on, it will make the job so much friendlier and you get to buy new fancy pegs too.  Well every newly decorated trolley needs a gift right?

We don't have washing bags like that in Australia either. Just wondering how you use it. I can see that you load dry washing into it off the line...but do you put wet washing in it to hang out? If so, doesn't it get wet too then? Do you keep your pegs in it all the time? I hope you can fill me in because I'd love to make one if I knew it would work for me!

Sarah, how lovely. Gosh its just non-stop rain at our place lately, I miss my clothes line, and I miss that glorious smell of the sun on the clothes and linen. Your 'mistake' is awesome, totally finishes off the basket for me. I love it. Thanks so much for sharing.

Sarah, you're always full of inspiration! I love the "creative detour from the original plan" :) Surprised you could even look at spotty fabric given your chicken pox epidemic! The end result is just so gorgeous. Thanks for the washing clay link. Shall check it out. xxx
