First Finish for the New Year!

Breaking news... We have our third chicken pox victim!  Yes the littlest one is currently turning into a chicken.  She was feeling a little bit sick this morning so we did wonder.  So that's three down, one to go.  Will No.1 get it as well?  We'll wait and see.

I am VERY impressed with myself today.  Yes indeed I am.  Do you know, on this fourth day of the new year, I have completed a quilt?  And it was quite a big one too.  Probably a king single but it's for a queen bed sort of.  Well I don't think my machine could cope with anything bigger, or me for that matter, so it will be just placed on her bed and used for snuggling up to in the winter months on the sofa.

It was No.1's design and I think it's turned out beautifully.  Pretty aqua and red fabrics.  It took me two days to quilt and about four hours to hand stitch the binding on.  I have to say I did enjoy that part so I won't be converting to machine stitched binding any time soon.  The finish is just so much nicer and neater.

And I wouldn't be a lovely Mama if I didn't say yes to her having a turn stippling on her own quilt now would I?  Even with no practice too!  She reported to me that it wasn't as easy as it looked.  No darling it isn't!  Your mama is more clever that you first thought.  But my golly did I shake in my jandals while she was sewing!!

And here it is on her bed that I had to make as she just didn't want to do anything about tidying her own room.  She since has and was rewarded with a huge spider under her bed!  It's probably a good idea to clean one's room more often as you never know who you might be sharing it with!

And while I have been inside sewing, my dear boy has been slogging it outside in the humid heat building me a double compost bin.  Isn't he a sweetie?

Don't you love to watch progress?

From the armchair inside!

And now I can hear the front pieces of timber being cut for the removable fronts.  Can you see it's already being used?  I can see it's going to take quite some time to fill which is a good thing.

Ah well I guess I should go and make a start on the dinner.  Sausages and salad on the menu today.  Sounds quite simple and light in the cooking dept.  I hope you are having yourselves a good day or evening.  Catch you later!  Sarah xx

WOW, a quilt in two days???? That's astounding. Looking forward to seeing the next thing your hands create. Hope the little one doesn't suffer too much with the itchies.

Molly - you are one lucky girl :)

Oh dear Sarah on the CP front - if I was you I'd assume that Molly might be next - its one of those illnesses. I think my Mum had 4 of us go down with it one year - one after the other :(

Very impressive and looks lovely in her room! My mr w built one just like that in Canberra about 20 years ago...it was really useful and held heaps of compost which was great for our vege garden.

That's an incredible quilt, Sarah. Your compost heaps look a lot like ours, only we have the added problem of trying to keep the dog out of the active side! She's a real nuisance trying to steal bits...

Over half way with the pox! Sarah... your quilt is absolutely stunning. I LOVE the stippling. I want to do a quilt in it, but a bit scared...think I should try something smaller first! Well done!!!

Hi Sarah,
Thanks so much for visiting my blog and most importantly, now introducing me to yours! What a lovely quilt, you've obviosuly got the stippling sorted and I agree with you entirely on the hand sewn binding; however time consuming the finish cannot be beaten. I actually quite enjoy it, except when I have several quilts all waiting to be done one after the other! Good luck with the compost!

Lovely quilt Sarah, beautifully quilted! The colours are a great match with the colour on the wall and the pillows. No.1 is a great designer.

(If she also gets the chickenpox, she has a nice blanket to lie under)

Love the quilt too and nope: stippling (or any other machine quilting) is NOT as easy as it looks!!! It'll take me a while before I dare putting a real quilt on my machine!
The compostbin looks impressive; ots of room for more apples :)
