Packaging Problems

The Great Apron Swap 2010 continues.  I've had so many lovely emails from people wishing to join in the fun.  It's great to 'meet' so many more new faces.  I've had a couple of ladies saying they couldn't get the email in my profile to work.  If you are having trouble, just leave a message here, and I will get back to you.  I would hate anyone to miss out because of technology.  Oh and if you haven't emailed me with your details yet, please do.

So far we have 46 participants and the number is steadily growing.  It's open until the 25th April, by which time I'll probably be wondering what on earth I've got myself into!!

Lunch today.  I found a cheap and easy gluten free meal at the supermarket last Friday.  After heating it in the microwave (worrying about what the plastic was made from and if it alone would kill me) I poured it into my plate.  Goodness, it sure smelt very spicy, but that wasn't my biggest issue.  Just look at the packaging...

And now, what it looked like on my plate...  Are you seeing any resemblance?  Saffron?  Where?  I thought saffron was bright yellow.  And the peas?  Brown balls more like.  Very disappointing indeed.  And no I didn't eat it, it was horrid.

But if honest packaging is important, what does my packaging say about me??  Oh dear.

Is there a glamorous way to patch jeans?  Not that I'm glam or anything, I just don't want to look like my three year old.  Crochet patches may be OK for her, but for me??  Any ideas will be gratefully recieved.

Sarah. Go and buy a new pair of jeans!!! Jeans West, stretch flares. Two pairs for $99. Go down a size as these babies stretch a whole half a size. Trudi x

Well that's speaking the truth if I ever did hear it! Just wait until I come down to Welly again!
I did actually try and find a new pair of jeans today, but shopping and 3 year olds don't go together very well.

What about some red gingham hexagons appliqued over the holes?

LOL Your "packaging" gave me a chuckle!I say you look comfortable!
Have a great week!

Actually it's not that comfy as it's getting a bit draughty up my legs. I'm really not sure I'm up to gingham hexies, but maybe if I wear some sparkly green knickers I'll not notice the holes in my jeans.

Bring on the red gingham patches! :)

Pity about the rice. The picture on the packaging looked deceivingly good... Hope it wasn't a big waste of money.

my sister put some cute material on the inside of the pants so you can just see a little bit...if she bends her knee...and when you sew the fabric in place it stops more fraying and tearing!:) Good luck!

Why not get another old pair of jeans to keep for patching, cut squares (or circles) big enough to cover the holes on the outside, sew round each patch twice, by machine if you can, then wash on a fairly hot wash so the edges of the patches fluff up. Then if more holes appear later you can use the same treatment for your'designer' jeans. Good luck

Chop the legs off and wear them as shorts. Hmm, are you heading for winter? Well, you can always wear black woolly tights underneath the shorts, looks quite sexy ( or so my darling sons tell me when they see the girlies wearing them ).

I used bits of flowery Cath Kidston fabric at an angle, and then when they got grubby and holey, put another different coloured patch on top - I just loved the idea of patching patches! I folded them in (you can even double them for strength) and machined round the edge. I could just do it using the free arm, as I couldn't face either hand sewing them on denim, or opening up the seams and redoing them that way. It is always the left knee that goes - not sure why! I can send you a photo to demonstrate - I can even send you some scraps of the same fabric as I still have some left ...

Nothing wrong with holes in jeans... but I've patched with denim in the past and been perfectly happy with the contrasting shades. Mind you, crochet would look rather lovely as well.
Wish I had the time to join the apron swap - it sounds a really good idea.

Hi Sarah. Are you happy for us to pair up for the too good to eat swap? If so you have my details - could I have yours? Ta xx

Here in the states, people (not me) pay big bucks for designer jeans that already have holes and are frayed. So just consider yourself stylish... and smart enough to craft your own.

The other day, we walked through a large department store, and I couldn't believe my eyes- VERY (I mean REALLY short) shorts made from cut off jeans. No hem. Threads hanging. A whole rack of them. $139 a pair! Right next to that rack, jeans with all sorts of distressing, including rips and big holes. $189. I don't get it. So skip the patches and your very hip! (I like your layering idea!!)
